The Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Titanium Carbon watch

The Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Titanium Carbon watch is not only the first fruit of the partnership between Hublot and Ferrari, announced a scant five months ago, but also the first use of an entirely new material developed by Hublot: so-called “Magic Gold,” a scratch-resistant alloy of gold and ceramic used for the case.

The case is larger than that of a typical replica Hublot Big Bang watch, 45.5 mm in diameter; this is the first variation of the Big Bang case since the model was launched in 2005. Other notable features include a cylindrical bezel, a sapphire dial that shows off the movement (Hublot’s in-house Unico caliber, an automatic chronograph), an indexed crown with the Hublot “H” logo, elongated push-buttons that are fixed along a rotating axis like the pedals of a car, carbon inserts on the case profile, and two interchangeable straps, which use a quick-change system inspired by a car’s seatbelt and feature tone-on-tone stitching that echoes the type used on the upholstery of Ferrari interiors. The “Magic Gold” case is water-resistant to 100 meters.

The dial showcases Ferrari’s legendary “prancing horse” logo in relief at 9’clock and a minute counter at 3 o’clock with red hand and yellow date window; the hand and indices of the counter are influenced by instruments on a Ferrari dashboard. The Unico movement is used here for the first time in a Big Bang model; it beats at 28,800 vph and has a column wheel with horizontal coupling on its dial side. For this version of the Unico, Hublot has added a rotor that is inspired by the look of a Ferrari wheel rim. It gives the watch a power reserve of 72 hours.

TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 36 Chronograph Flyback

The design of the replica TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 36 Chronograph Flyback is influenced by vintage TAG Heuer stopwatches, with the seconds displayed on a large scale along the outer rim of the dial. The watch also features a Zenith El Primero movement.

The watch picks up design elements from TAG Heuer’s Mikrograph, including most prominently the seconds track with oversize digits and an especially large “60” at the top of the dial. The wide seconds track aids legibility and helps fill the space between the subdials and the bezel, which is needed given that the movement’s architecture was developed when watches were smaller. The 43-mm case is a traditional Carrera design, rendered in grade 2 titanium. The case finish is created by sandblasting the exterior before treating it with a black titanium carbide coating.

The anthracite dial is decorated with a sunray effect. The chronograph minutes and continuous seconds subdials are snailed with fine-brushed appliqués and polished facets. The caseback is smoked sapphire.  The strap, inspired by motor-racing leathers, is black leather with a black perforated layer and a black titanium grade 2 folding clasp.

Rolex Yacht-Master II Regatta Time

Rolex Yacht-Master II — the successor to the original Rolex Yacht-Master — debuted in 2007 and introduced a Rolex-exclusive regatta countdown function that can be “programmed” from 1 to 10 minutes and incorporates a mechanical memory that allows it to be reset to the same countdown duration used previously.

Once launched, the countdown can also be synchronized on the fly, enabling adjustment to match the official regatta start-time countdown. Programming the countdown is easy, by means of the rotatable Ring Command bezel, a Rolex-developed system linking the bezel to the movement.

The Rolex Yacht-Master II replica has a 44-mm Rolex Oyster case (available in several precious metals, in Rolex’s proprietary “Rolesium” material, or in a new stainless steel version with blue Cerachrom bezel, shown below.) The watch contains the Rolex manufacture Caliber 4161, which has a COSC chronometer certification and includes a column-wheel chronograph.

Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio For Regatta Time

The Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio (PAM00526) has a lightweight, brushed titanium case, 47 mm in diameter, and is outfitted with Panerai’s in-house Caliber P.9100/R, which powers not only a flyback chronograph but a user-friendly regatta countdown function. To start the countdown to a regatta (in which perfect timing is crucial, with all boats required to line up behind an imaginary line without crossing it), the owner pushes an orange push-button at 4 o’clock to move the central orange chronograph minute hand back, one minute at a time, until it is at the correct position in relation to the length of the countdown. Next, he presses the chronograph stop/start button at 10 o’clock, which starts the chronograph hands moving, indicating first the minutes and seconds remaining until the start, and then, when the countdown has finished, the time elapsed since the start of the race.

At the end of the interval being measured, the push-button at eight o’clock returns all the chronograph hands to zero; if it is operated while the hands are still moving, it activates the return-to-zero (flyback) function of these hands, enabling the wearer to start timing a new interval immediately, without using the stop and reset buttons. The flange around the dial displays a 15-minute scale for the regatta countdown, with the five final minutes distinguished in orange, along with a tachymeter scale that is measured in knots, which enables a sailor to determine the speed of his boat over a defined distance.
